We don't work on weekends.

We are fully committed to the 40-hour work week. Gone are the years where 50, 60, or even 70 hours marked a normal week at work. We don't want our people working themselves to the bone. We deal with enough crazy scenarios and problems during our regular work hours without pushing our team to deal with 20 additional hours of craziness a week. We are confident moving our company forward in the healthy hours allotted. Sure there will be times where our job asks or requires us to work additional hours but that should be the exception not the rule.

That being said we are a service provider and while we don't work on weekends, we always have at least one team member on call during the weekend. Just because we provide service 5 days a week doesn't mean a hard drive can't crash on a Saturday or a software update fails and locks your laptop on a Sunday. Those things can and do happen.

Just last weekend our on call team member helped two clients with urgent issues. Wifi sporadically stopped working for one client and another was dealing with malware and software updates. Those were real problems that needed resolving before Monday. We want to be able to provide our clients with the help they need even if it is the weekend. Our on call team member took care of those issues and made sure the clients were satisfied before returning to enjoy his weekend.

Do we charge more on the weekends? Absolutely. That's time should be spent with our families and friends. We feel our time is more valuable on the weekends and because of that we charge an overtime rate. We've seen companies with normal rates for weekends, and they have clients always reaching out and it becomes more difficult to distinguish the typical needs from the urgent ones. By having our overtime rate be standard for the weekend, we can ensure that the urgent requests are handled appropriately while the others wait until Monday.

We love our work, our clients, and our company, but we love our families more.

We love talking about work and business and we'd love to hear from you in the comments! Hope you had a great weekend!
